CT Youth Football League Announcement, September 20, 2008

  • We are going with 18 min quarters for A & B teams, with time outs and injuries the only clock stoppage. The last 2 min of each half will be standard stop clock. If games are going too long or short we may need to adjust during the day. Please make sure the Refs are aware of the new timing rules before your game starts. The Refs cheat sheets are on the "ref" section of the CTYFL website and I suggest you have those handy in case. The feeling is that the C & MM games are running too long (possibly because there are more injury clock stoppage at these levels). So for this week we are going to test the times at 16 min for the C & MM teams and stay with the 18 for A & B to see if we can finish the day on time.
  • Weigh Ins - Each FB team must have a master weigh in sheet that will be used for the entire year. Do not give that one away to the opposing coaches after weigh in. Give the opposing coach a copy of your CTYFL roster instead for their records (this does not have to be the signed copy). That way the opposing coach has a list of your players as well as age and addresses.
  • You MUST have your books at weigh in, and only stamped players can participate. 2 Coaches from each team should be at weigh in - 1 looking at the books and pictures, and the other writing on the weigh in sheet. Overweight players cannot play and it should be his own coach that tells him that.
  • Start weigh ins early, I recommend starting 45 min before the game to be ready to take the field 10 min before the hour. Delays in the start of the game will only make for a reduction in our actual playing times.
  • Media sheets are also part of the software you have and should be printed out and given to the announcers 1/2 hour before your game starts for both football and cheerleading.
  • Good Luck to all and remember you are not only responsible for the well being of your teams, but also the children on the other side of the field. When the helmets and pads come off they are all just children.
